TheMomentWeBuildTheMomentWeBuild

Every year Driftime publishes this report, and every year we wrestle with the same question. How honest do we actually want to be? It's tempting to smooth over the difficult parts, to frame everything as progress and let the wins do the talking. That has never been how we work, and it isn't how we intend to tell this story. So this is the honest version, written from where we're standing at the close of the year.

2025 tested Driftime in ways we didn't anticipate. Some of what we built worked exactly as we hoped. Other things fell short. A few taught us lessons we didn't know we needed. Running through all of it were moments that shifted how we think about the work, the team, and the kind of agency we're becoming. This isn't a highlight reel. It's a set of reflections from the front line of a demanding year.

We share these openly because openness has value, and not only for us. Purpose-driven work in the creative industries doesn't come with a playbook, and the more we say about what we're learning in real time, the more useful this report becomes for the people reading it. Whoever is navigating similar terrain, a small studio weighing the same trade-offs, should find something here they can use. That is the point of telling it straight.

What follows is grouped by theme. Some of it is practical, some of it is personal, and all of it is true. We've kept the difficult parts in, because the difficult parts are usually where the learning lives, and because a report that only records the wins teaches no one anything, least of all us. Read it straight through or jump to what's relevant, the threads hold either way.
